The Mekong Delta is facing many challenges from the impact of climate change, exploitation and use of water upstream; infrastructure is still inadequate in response to large-scale production requirements, lack of logistics infrastructure for agriculture; Unpredictable market fluctuations with the trend of green consumption require higher and higher safety standards.
The next goal is to develop the Mekong Delta quickly and sustainably; proactively adapt to climate change; create breakthroughs to improve the material and spiritual life of the people; maintaining national security, political stability and social order. To focus on developing agriculture and rural areas in the direction of “ecological agriculture, modern countryside, civilized farmers”; define “agriculture as the driving force, farmers as the center, rural areas as the foundation”, “converting agricultural production to agricultural economic development”, on the basis of developing a rural infrastructure system. Modern, smart, development of large-scale, high-quality commodity agriculture, combined with trade, logistics services, eco-tourism, processing industry, enhancing value and competitiveness ; closely linking agriculture with industry and services, and between rural and urban areas.
